Rizla’s musical project Rizlab recently threw a special party with Jamie xx and Quayola providing the sounds and visuals, respectively. Having had a sneak preview and having been postponed due to the London Riots, this was one hotly tipped and anticipated event. It was held at Old Street’s Classic Car Club – a well kept warehouse that actually usually houses vintage motors including Aston Martins, Mustangs and Jaguars. Knowing this, as some of the cars had been leased out that evening and whilst some motors were sitting in the smoking area, it gave the choice of venue a lot of character. More to the point, inside of the dimmly lit club like venue was a decent sound system whilst two 15 foot monitors took over parallel walls that projected Quayola’s visuals as they were synchronised with Jamie xx’s mighty three hour set, great things were on course for the night. As Jamie had a full three hours to run track it allowed him switch in between genres made up of UK garage, funky, house, electro, bass etc. with no time constraints. The visuals were immense as shapes and patterns endlessly constantly moved in relentless fashion. This definitely caught the attention of the whole crowd, who all stood fairly still to absorb everything in, as much as it was a rave environment, essentially the project was more of art event. And it was definitely a fine one at that. Massive props to Rizlab for throwing another great event, and of course the stars of the night, Jamie xx for playing a super sound set and Quayola for creating the eye candy. Check out the photos below of how the evening unfolded and how it came to life. for all photos: http://www.wearehq.com/2011/10/rizlab-presents-structures-jamie-xx-and-quayola-live-recap/
